Gaels dominate today’s news cycle

Seems that every time we post a news story today on smcgaels.com, more good news comes out!

Early this morning, Mickey McConnell was named one of 10 finalists for the Bob Cousy Award.  The original list of 70 candidates was whittled down to 20 last month and is now at 10. The final group of five will be announced early next month.  The difference now is that fans can vote for their favorite candidate, so vote early and vote often for Mickey!

Mickey was also named the WCC Player of the Month for January this morning.  Think that was a no-brainer?  He was a three-time WCC Player of the Week and, statistically, had a great month.  And, he could have won it on his game-winner at Gonzaga alone!

Finally, the Gaels have returned to the national rankings – coming in at number 23 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches’ Poll.

    Hey folks–
I’m thinking you should change the image for the website’s story about Mickey being named one of the Cousy finalists. It’s not what I would call a flattering look for one of the better players SMC has ever had.

Thanks for the suggestion Andy. Even though it wasn’t the most flattering facial expression, the photo did show that LMU’s Edgar Garibay had to grab him in order to stop him. Mickey got the matchup against Edgar several times at the top of the key and generally just blew past him. The story has cycled through already and there is a new photo up.
