Behind the game-high 21 points of Patrick Mills and the 10 assists from Matthew Dellavedova, the Australian National Team claimed a convincing 87-66 win over world ranked No. 5 France on the opening day of basketball competition at the Rio Olympic Games in Brazil.
The Aussies were solid at both ends of the floor as they shut down France defensively, forcing 17 turnovers, while their offense distributed 29 assists on 35 field goals. The win was Australia’s first in the opening game of the Olympic group stage since 1996 and was the first time they have beaten France in Olympic competition.
