Former Saint Mary’s baseball player Corbin Burnes‘ story has always been one of upward movement. Now in Appleton, Wisc., playing full season Single-A baseball with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Milwaukee Brewers affiliate), Burnes was the focal point of a recent feature story in the local Post-Crescent newspaper.
In the story — which includes a video interview — Burnes talks about his rise from a small, undrafted high school pitcher to an All-American at Saint Mary’s and a fourth-round draft pick of the Brewers. He also attributes his growth to the coaching and support staff at Saint Mary’s.
“I had a great pitching coach in Eric Valenzuela. He’s worked with guys like Stephen Strasburg, Brian Matusz and A.J. Griffin. He knows the game and he taught me how to pitch. He’s a reason that why I’m here.” — Former SMC Pitcher Corbin Burnes
