Five Gaels named All-Stars in summer leagues

Five Saint Mary’s baseball team members will take center stage this week in their respective collegiate summer baseball leagues, as they were chosen to participate in their leagues’ all-star game and festivities.

Drew Strotman and Johnny York will represent the Gaels on the South squad in the Cal Ripken League All-Star Game, set to be played on Wednesday at Shirley Povich Field in Bethesda, Md. Both pitchers play for the Bethesda Big Train and are among the league leaders in wins and ERA.

Joey Fiske earned a starting spot in the outfield with the West All-Stars of the Prospect League. The game will be played Wednesday in Kokomo, Ind. Fiske has hit five doubles and stolen seven bases while playing in nearly every game for the Danville (Ill.) Dans.

Austin Chauvin and Tyler Lonestar were named All-Stars for the West team of the Futures League, based in New England. Chauvin has led the Bristol Blues by a large margin with a .388 batting average. He also has a home run and eight RBIs so far this summer. Lonestar carries a 2.81 ERA and 14 strikeouts in eight relief appearances for the Worcester Bravehearts.
