Simpson named to Cavs Summer League roster

Former Saint Mary’s forward Diamon Simpson has signed to play for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Summer League, scheduled for July 8-18 in Las Vegas.

A native of Hayward, Calif., Simpson spent the last half of the season as a member of Movistar Estudiantes in Spain.  He averaged 11.5 points and 5.1 rebounds in 13 league games.  He also finished fourth in the league in blocks with 1.2 per game.

Simpson played 21 games with Ironi Nes Ziona in Israel before signing with Estudiantes for a second time during his career in Europe.  He averaged 19.3 points and a league-leading 10.7 rebounds per game.

The Cavaliers will play three preliminary round games before being seeded in the summer league tournament, which tips off on July 13. Each team is guaranteed to play at least five games. ESPN will present all 67 games from Las Vegas across ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3, ESPNU and WatchESPN. NBA TV will also televise 30 games, beginning on July 8 as the Cavaliers face the Milwaukee Bucks at 3 p.m. PT.

All games will be played at the COX Pavilion and Thomas & Mack Center on the campus of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.
