McConnell set to play in NBA Summer League

Former Saint Mary’s guard Mickey McConnell will participate in the 2016 Southwest Airlines Orlando Pro Summer League as a member of the Orlando Magic.  Games are scheduled to take place July 2-8 on the Magic’s practice court.

The 25-game, seven-day event will feature two teams from the Orlando Magic, along with the Charlotte Hornets, Dallas Mavericks, Detroit Pistons, Indiana Pacers, Los Angeles Clippers, Miami Heat, New York Knicks and Oklahoma City Thunder.  NBA TV will televise 24 of the 25 summer league games live.

McConnell, the 2011 West Coast Conference Player of the Year, spent last season with Chalons-Reims in the French first division.  He averaged 10.6 points and 5.6 assists per game (5th in the league) in 30 minutes per game.

A native of Mesa, Ariz., McConnell has spent time with professional teams in Italy, Germany and France and played with the Texas Legends of the NBA’s D-League in 2013-14.
