Former Saint Mary’s baseball player Kyle Jensen has been on fire as spring has shifted to summer, resulting in a record June with the Reno Aces, the Triple-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Jensen has set a new club record for RBIs in a month this June, already driving in 39 runs with still one more game to play. He broke the old record of 34 on Saturday with a five-RBI, two home runs performance versus the in-state rival Las Vegas 51s.
Jensen’s June has been impressive in many areas, including his record RBI total. In just 27 games, he’s slugging .694 with 20 extra-base hits. His 10 home runs are twice as many as he had in both April and May combined. Just halfway through the 2016 season and he’s already approaching professional career bests in doubles (seven away), RBIs (21 away) and total bases (90 away). He’s also currently holding career bests in batting average (.304), slugging percentage (.569) and OPS (.923).
All of his efforts have earned Jensen a spot on the Pacific Coast League’s All-Star team. The midseason honor is the fourth of Jensen’s career and first as a member of the PCL. He ranks among PCL leaders in RBI (1st), doubles (3rd), homers (T-3rd), slugging percentage (.569 – 6th) and hits (T-9th). The 29th annual Triple-A All-Star Game will be played Wednesday, July 13, at BB&T Ballpark in Charlotte, N.C., at 4:05 p.m. PDT. The PCL All-Stars, comprised of 30 players from the 16 PCL teams, will compete against the International League All-Stars.
