Violent wind and rain on Thursday in Kansas forced the complete rescheduling of the first day of the 2016 NCAA West Preliminary Meet at the University of Kansas, where Gabe Arias and Zach Hansen are scheduled to compete. After numerous tornado and lightning delays, coupled with heavy rain, the entire first day of the meet was cancelled Thursday, forcing meet organizers to fold day one into the final two days, Friday and Saturday.
Instead of both competing Thursday, Arias will now run on Friday morning and Hansen will compete on Saturday. Arias’ 10,000-meter race is set for 8:40 a.m. CDT Friday, with the top-12 qualifying for the NCAA National Championship in Eugene, Ore. Hansen will now run in the 1,500-meter quarterfinals without having to run the first round race originally set for Thursday. The top two finishers of each heat (4) and the next four fastest times will qualify for the National Championship meet.
