Saint Mary’s baseball right-handed pitcher Corbin Burnes has received plenty of attention this season, and Wednesday was another example, as well-known baseball publication Baseball America published a feature piece on Burnes.
The piece details Burnes’ journey from an unrecruited, undrafted high school graduate, through his struggling freshman year at Saint Mary’s, his much-improved sophomore season in 2015, all the way to his explosion onto the scene in the Cape Cod League last summer, as well as his dominance this season.
“When I first got there, the biggest thing was telling myself I belonged there,” Burnes said (about last summer’s Cape Cod League experience). “That whole summer helped renew my confidence in a way, because I figured out that I belonged and could be out there with the best. And I tried to bring that confidence with me into this season as well.” — SMC RHP Corbin Burnes
Burnes is the probable starter for Friday’s showdown with Pepperdine and their ace A.J. Puckett in the opener of an important three-game West Coast Conference series at Louis Guisto Field. Tickets are available for purchase on SMCGaels.com or by calling the Saint Mary’s ticket office at (925) 631-GoTx. All games of the series will also be streamed live on GaelVision.
