Life University came out strong right after halftime and scored two converted tries to come back and take a 17-15 lead over Saint Mary’s. The momentum belonged to the Running Eagles from here on out. However, Vili Helu was able to capitalize on a deflected Life lineout pass, which he caught and then dove past the try line to regain the lead for the Gaels. With just over fourteen minutes remaining in the championship match, Life scored a go-ahead try to make the score 24-20 in their favor. Neither team could score for the rest of the match and the Running Eagles prevailed, winning their second D1A National Championship in the past four years. Harley Davidson was the Most Valuable Player for the Running Eagles. Congratulations to both teams for a match well-fought and for two outstanding seasons!
