The Saint Mary’s baseball team partook in the annual Bay Area Baseball Media Day Tuesday at Stanford, with members of the region’s media on hand to indulge in the Bay Area’s six NCAA Division I baseball teams. Gaels head coach Eric Valenzuela, as well as seniors Ian McLoughlin and Anthony Villa, were on hand to represent the program.
Valenzuela spoke to the media about the strength of the Gaels’ pitching and the experience on offense that should lead the team to success in 2016. He also did not shy away from some of the preseason accolades the Gaels have received, including being picked to finish among the WCC’s top-three in two different polls (D1Baseball.com, WCC Coaches’ Poll)
“I think half the battle is knowing that you’re good, feeling like you’re good. Those expectations that some publications are giving us – I like it, and I’m not going to shy away from that. These guys work hard everyday, so whatever happens comes results time, it won’t be from lack of work.” — SMC Head Coach Eric Valenzuela
