SMC athletics names communications assistant

The Saint Mary’s athletic department recently hired Mark Rivera as assistant director of athletic communications.  He will handle publicity efforts for the SMC baseball, cross country/track, indoor and beach volleyball and women’s tennis teams.

Rivera joins the SMC staff after spending the last year as sports information director at Academy of Art in San Francisco.  He served as the department’s primary communications contact for baseball, men’s basketball, men and women’s soccer, golf and women’s tennis.

Prior to his time at Academy of Art, Mark served as a media relations assistant at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

After graduating from CSU Stanislaus in 2009, he served as a communications intern at Harvard and San Jose State before moving to Seattle to obtain his master’s degree in Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership at the University of Washington.

Rivera replaces Ben Enos, who left the department during the summer to join his alma mater’s media relations staff.
