WBK | Beck And Tall Ferns Fall Short Against Opals

Stella Beck and the New Zealand national team fell short in its automatic qualifying bid to the 2016 Rio Olympics, falling to Australia, ranked No. 2 in the world.

Beck, who was named the 2014-15 West Coast Conference Newcomer of the Year, returns for her sophomore season with the Gaels in 2015-16. She helped the Tall Ferns to one of their closest games against the powerful Opals, as New Zealand trailed by about 10 points entering the final period. Beck and New Zealand still have a shot at qualifying for the 2016 Olympics. The Tall Ferns face a repechage series in the middle of 2016 with a bid on the line.

In her first season with the Gaels, Beck started all 33 games she appeared in, averaging 8.1 ppg and 6.1 rpg. She also led the WCC in field-goal percentage, shooting at a .550 clip.

Saint Mary’s opens the year on November 13th in Northridge. The Gaels home opener is set for Sunday, November 15th against San Jose State in McKeon Pavilion.
