SMC golfer qualifies for match play at US Amateur

Saint Mary’s senior Jonathan De Los Reyes eagled the par 5 18th hole at Olympia Fields (Ill.) Country Club to shoot a 2nd round 69 and join 17 other golfers in a playoff for a spot in match play at the 2015 U.S. Amateur Championships.  The Antioch native was able to advance out of the playoff intoto the first round of match play and will face 2nd seeded David Oraee of Colorado at 12:45 p.m. today.

De Los Reyes is one of two current Gaels to qualify for the U.S. Amateur.  Sophomore Roman Aragon missed the cut by just one stroke after consecutive rounds of 72 to finish at 4-over par.

Saint Mary’s has had at least one qualifier into the U.S. Amateur for each of the last five years and at least 11 different Gaels have played in the event over the years.
