De Los Reyes’ US Amateur run comes to an end

Saint Mary’s senior golfer Johnathan De Los Reyes’ run at the 2015 U.S. Amateur Championships came to an end today with a 2-up loss to second seeded David Oraee of Greeley, Colo. at Olympia Fields (Ill.) Country Club.

Oraee jumped out to a quick lead when he recorded a birdie on the second hole of the round to go 1-up.  De Los Reyes responded by taking the seventh and eighth holes to grab a 1-up lead until Oraee made the match all square on the ninth.

After the turn, the two golfers each made par on the 10th through 12th holes until De Los Reyes carded a pair of birdies on 13 and 14 to to 2-up with four holes to play.  Oraee, however, finished strong by winning the final four holes of the match to advance in the match play competition.

The Saint Mary’s golf team opens its season on Sept. 14 by hosting the annual Saint Mary’s Invitational at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach.  To read more about that tournament, click here.
