Former West Coast Conference Player of the Year Mickey McConnell and the Phoenix Suns will face the San Antonio Spurs tonight at 6 p.m. (PT) in the championship game of the NBA’s Summer League in Las Vegas.
In last night’s semifinals, the Suns defeated New Orleans 93-87 to earn a spot in the final. The Spurs defeated former Saint Mary’s guard Stephen Holt and the Hawks 75-68 to earn the other title game spot.
Against the Pelicans McConnell was a perfect 2-for-2 from the field in 25 minutes of play with a team-high five assists and he posted the team’s second-highest plus-minus at an impressive +15 while he was on the floor.
In six Summer League games, the former Saint Mary’s guard averaged 5.0 points, 1.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists, while shooting an incredible .733 (11-for-15) from the field and .833 (5-for-6) from behind the 3-point arc. He averaged 19.5 minutes per game.
In his six appearances, Holt averaged 7.8 points, 1.8 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.5 steals in 23.0 minutes per game. He scored 17 points with 3 steals in a win over Denver.
