SMC men’s soccer signees advance to national semifinals

Saint Mary’s men’s soccer signees Stephen Dougherty and Remi Prieur are key performers on the San Jose Earthquakes U18 Academy side that recently qualified for the semifinals of the United States Soccer Development Academy national championships.

The Quakes defeated defending champions Players Development Academy (PDA) by a convincing 3-0 scoreline Tuesday to advance to the tournament semifinals July 16-18 at U.S. Soccer’s National Training Center in Carson, Calif.

The Northwest Division regular season champions, San Jose will join Academy teams from Major League Soccer sides Chicago Fire, Montreal Impact and Real Salt Lake.

The Saint Mary’s men’s soccer team reports to campus in early August and opens the season Friday, August 28 at Duke University.  The Gaels play their first home game on Sept. 4 against La Salle in Saint Mary’s Stadium.  Tickets are on sale online at SMCGaels.com.
