Burnes Making A Mark In Cape Cod League

Last summer, Saint Mary’s pitcher Corbin Burnes made a name for himself on the national stage when he was named a top-10 prospect in the Hamptons League by Perfect Game USA. That set the stage for a big sophomore season in Moraga as the right-hander went 7-5 with a 3.74 ERA and 91 strikeouts in 89 innings.

This year, Burnes is at it again and this time he’s making a splash in the prestigious Cape Cod League. Playing for the first-place Orleans Firebirds, SMC’s soon-to-be junior earned some high praise from D1Baseball.com’s Frankie Piliere (subscription required), who described Burnes as “clearly one of the highest upside arms on the Cape this summer.” The Bakersfield, Calif. native owns a 2-1 record and 3.18 ERA in four appearances for Orleans through Monday’s games.

Burnes also did a quick interview for the Firebirds’ website in which he talks about his goals for the summer. Check it out below.
