Two former Saint Mary’s men’s basketball players continue to thrive professionally in their home country with the recent news that Clint Steindl has re-signed with the Townsville Crocodiles and Lucas Walker has inked a deal with the Adelaide 36ers ahead of the 2015-16 season.
Steindl and Walker are familiar names in Australia’s National Basketball League (NBL), with Steindl returning to the Crocodiles after joining the team last year and Walker making the jump to Adelaide after playing for the Melbourne Tigers last year. Steindl averaged 9.6 points and 3.2 rebounds per game for Townsville last year while Walker averaged 7.5 points and 5.1 rebounds for Melbourne.
Both Townsville and Adelaide have already well-established Saint Mary’s ties. Steindl will be one of three former Gaels suiting up in Townsville this year as he’ll be joined by new signee Mitchell Young as well as Kate Gaze, who continues her career as a member of the Townsville Fire in the WNBL. In Adelaide, Walker joins a 36ers squad that current SMC associate head coach Marty Clarke coached for three seasons before coming to Moraga.
