Former Saint Mary’s pitcher Martin Agosta continues to develop his game at Single-A San Jose this season and the right-hander earned a little recognition on Monday as he was named California League Pitcher of the Week by MILB.com for his performance against Inland Empire last week.
Agosta has pitched both as a starter and reliever this year for the San Francisco Giants’ affiliate but he got the ball to start the game last Friday and took advantage of the chance. The Sacramento, Calif. native worked seven scoreless innings, allowed one hit, one walk and struck out a season-high nine. The high strikeout total isn’t a new phenomenon, as the former SMC star is averaging 10.6 strikeouts per nine innings.
