Given her academic prowess while at Saint Mary’s, the post-graduate possibilities for former Gaels volleyball player Kristina Graven seemed endless when she received her degree in 2014.
But, when Graven made the move to Northumbria University in Newcastle, England in search of further education, volleyball made the trek with her. As it turns out, so did her winning ways as last week, Graven played a big part in two huge victories, helping Northumbria win the National Cup and Women’s Cup to be crowned Volleyball England champions. The National Cup is the primary knock out competition in the Volleyball England competition calendar, serving as the culmination of a league season that began in October. Graven, who so often helped lead the Saint Mary’s attack during her two years in Moraga, led Northumbria with 11 kills in the National Cup final against London Polonia.
