There is a bit of Saint Mary’s baseball news on the transaction wires tonight as the Los Angeles Dodgers announced that they have acquired former Gaels outfielder Kyle Jensen from the Miami Marlins for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
Jensen, who played at Saint Mary’s from 2007-09, hit .260 with 27 home runs and 92 RBI last season while playing both outfield and first base at Triple-A New Orleans. That home run total tied him for fourth in the PCL in the category. He has hit 128 home runs in his minor league career. The Marlins drafted Jensen in the 12th round of the 2009 first-year player draft.
While at SMC, Jensen was a two-time All-West Coast Conference first team selection. He played in 129 games as a Gael, starting 126. Jensen owns the school record for batting average in a single season after hitting .421 in 2008. He also hit 28 home runs in his Saint Mary’s career.
