Former SMC golfers pass first qualifying stage for Tour

Former Saint Mary’s golfers Ben Geyer and Mac McClung advanced through the first of three stages of qualifying for the Tour.

Geyer finished in a tie for 29th place, right on the cut line, in the 72-hole first stage that concluded today at Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon in Beaumont, Calif.  He fired rounds of 71-74-70-69 for a 4-under par 284.

McClung qualified for the second round two weeks ago with an 11th place tie at 5-under par 283 with rounds of 67-73-72-71 at Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Ariz.

According to, Q school provides access to the 2015 Tour for players who can advance through all three stages (some were also required to advance through pre-qualifying, which wrapped up on September 19).

There will be three more first-stage events this week, and three next week. All six second-stage events will take place in November, and the final-stage event will be held December 11-16 at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
