Former SMC midfielder signs with Sacramento Republic FC

Former Saint Mary’s midfielder Agustin Cazarez signed a professional contract with Sacramento Republic FC today, just hours prior to the USL Pro roster freeze deadline.

Cazarez joins Republic FC after playing the 2014 USL PDL season with Ventura County Fusion. Cazarez appeared in 12 matches for the Fusion. Cazarez also started and recorded an assist against Republic FC on May 14 during the 2014 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

A native of Reseda, Calif., Cazarez played the 2010 and 2011 seasons at SMC following two seasons as an all-conference and team MVP performer at Moorpark College.  He was a first team all-West Coast Conference selection in 2011 and helped lead the Gaels to the league title and NCAA quarterfinals.

Republic FC plays the first of its five remaining regular season matches Wednesday night at 8 p.m. against Wilmington (N.C.) Hammerheads FC at Bonney Field in Sacramento.  With a win Republic FC will earn a home playoff match for the first round of the USL PRO playoffs.
