Refioglu opens play at the U.S. Amateur

Former Saint Mary’s golfer Dalan Refioglu carded a 2-over par 74 in the first round of the U.S. Amateur Championship on the Riverside Course today at the Atlanta Athletic Club in John’s Creek, Ga.

With several golfers still on the course, Refioglu’s placing isn’t final.  He is currently tied for 110th in the 312-golfer field.  The top 64 golfers advance to match play, which determines the U.S. Amateur champion.

Refioglu is scheduled for a 5:30 a.m. (Pacific) tee time off the 10th tee at the AAC’s Highlands Course on Tuesday.  He is paired for the second-straight day with American Luke Crapo, a junior at Weber State, and Welshman Rhys Pugh, a senior at East Tennessee State.

Last week the San Francisco Examiner published this story about Dalan’s career and previewed his participation in the U.S. Amateur, his final amateur tournament before turning professional.
