McConnell to play in NBA Summer League

Former Saint Mary’s guard and West Coast Conference Player of the Year Mickey McConnell has signed to play for the Charlotte Hornets in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.

McConnell spent last season with the Texas Legends of the NBA’s D-League after making it to the final cut with the Dallas Mavericks.  He played in Italy the previous two seasons.

The NBA Summer League begins Friday, July 11 with the Hornets facing the Golden State Warriors at 3:30 p.m. (Pacific).  Basketball fans will likely recognize the summer league head coach of the Hornets, former Georgetown center Patrick Ewing.

NBA TV will televise all 67 games of the Summer League.  SMC’s Matthew Dellavedova will play for the Cleveland Cavaliers and Stephen Holt will play for the Atlanta Hawks.
