Though most are just a few weeks into their summer ball season, several members of the Saint Mary’s baseball team are making great strides already as they work towards the 2015 season.
In the far Northwest, Nate Nolan has gotten off to a great start with the Anchorage Glacier Pilots. The incoming sophomore is hitting .350 through seven games to rank third on the team in batting average. Future SMC teammate Johnny York has also been productive for the Glacier Pilots, making two starts with a 1.42 ERA in 6 1/3 innings pitched.
Moving to the Northeast, Trevor Abrams has started the summer on fire with the bat, hitting .346 (9 for 26) for the Westhampton Aviators. Darian Ramage has also been hot, going 9 for his first 27 (.333) with 10 runs scored, two home runs and seven walks as a member of the Worcester Bravehearts.
On the mound, Vince Braman has been strong, compiling a 2.07 ERA with eight strikeouts to just two walks in 8 2/3 innings pitched for the Quincy Gems. Further down the East Coast, Jake Valdez has been impressive for the Bethesda Big Train, allowing just one run in 11 innings (0.81 ERA) while striking out 13 and walking just four.
