Saint Mary’s volleyball coach Rob Browning is certainly keeping busy this summer, serving as an assistant coach for the U.S. Women’s National Team as it travels the globe to compete in several prestigious tournaments.
The latest stop for Browning and Team USA is Mexico as the Americans opened pool play at the 13th Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup with a victory over Colombia on Wednesday. Team USA is the two-time defending Pan American champ and with a win this year would become the first nation to win three in a row.
It’s already been a productive summer for Team USA after it won a gold medal in Pool A of the NORCECA World Championship Qualification Tournament Pool in mid-May in Colorado Springs, Colo. The team also finished second at the Montreux Volley Masters held May 27-June 1 in Montreux, Switzerland.
Team USA takes on Argentina today and will also play Costa Rica and Puerto Rico in Pool B. The top team in the pool advances to the semifinals on June 18 while the second and third-place teams play quarterfinal matches on June 17.
