Gaels contribute to Boomers’ win over China

Former Saint Mary’s basketball stars Lucas Walker and Clint Steindl played pivotal roles as the Australian National Team defeated China today 97-85 in the first of the four-game Sino-Australia Challenge in Perth.

Walker, playing in his first senior international game, led the Boomers with 17 points seven rebounds and two steals.  He led a fourth quarter resurgence for Australia.  Trailing by 12 heading into the final quarter, Walker scored 11 points to tie the game in regulation.

Steindl scored six points on 3-of-6 shooting in just more than 21 minutes of action.  The two teams return to the court for Game 2 on Saturday.
