Young earns QBL Player of the Week

Former Saint Mary’s forward Mitchell Young earned Queensland Basketball League (QBL) Player of the Week following a pair of solid performances last weekend.

Playing for the Cairns Marlins, he scored 31 points, shot 93.3 percent from the field and added 16 rebounds, one block, one assist and three steals in the team’s 89-79 win over the Toowoomba Mountaineers on Friday night.  The next evening, Young scored 22 points on 69.2 percent from the field with four rebounds to help Cairns secure a 104-100 victory over the Ipswich Force.

Young played against a familiar face on Friday.  Former SMC standout Tron Smith scored 31 points for Toowoomba in the game.  Clint Steindl is also playing for the Mackay Meteors.
