Former Saint Mary’s men’s tennis player Jesse Kiuru is finding success on the pro circuit, competing in Sweden and earning himself an international ranking thanks to some good recent results.
Kiuru, who played No. 1 singles for the Gaels in 2012-13, broke into the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings at No. 1,715 after winning multiple matches in two different countries. The native of Finland won a qualifying draw match in Turkey in early April but his breakthrough came in Sweden where he won two qualifying draw matches and a main draw match at the Sweden F1 Futures tournament in Karlskrona. That main draw victory earned Kiuru his ranking.
And, just this week, Kiuru has taken another step forward with two qualifying draw wins and a main draw win over Sweden’s Markus Eriksson at the Sweden F3 Futures. That victory should up his ranking even further and the former All-WCC Second Team selection will try to keep that roll going as he continues play at the tournament.
