Former SMC hoops star honored by high school

Former Saint Mary’s men’s basketball standout David Vann will be inducted into the Tucson (Ariz.) High Alumni T-Club at the organization’s annual banquet tomorrow night.

Vann, who played at Saint Mary’s from 1978-82 and is the program’s fourth-leading career scorer, is one of the top players to ever wear the Gaels uniform.  He earned all-WCC honors three times and was an honorable mention All-America selection as a senior.

His off-the-court story, however, is the focus of this article by Greg Hansen in today’s Arizona Daily Star.

“My name will be on the plaque,” said Vann. “But the award should go to the teachers and coaches at Tucson High School who put me on the track to success. I’ve waited a long time to be able to go back to Tucson and tell everyone, ‘Thank you.’”
