Five former and current Saint Mary’s golfers qualified for today’s first round of play at the 110th Annual NCGA Amateur Match Play Championship at Spyglass Hill Golf Course in Pebble Beach, Calif.
Junior Jonathan De Los Reyes finished tied for second place in the 36-hole stroke play qualifier that took place Monday and Tuesday with a 3-under 141. He shot 68 in the first round with five birdies and one bogey, then carded a 1-over par 73 yesterday.
Recent graduate Ben Geyer finished stroke play tied for eighth place at 1-over, while senior Alex Bungert tied for 18th at 3-over. Geyer and Bungert will face each other in today’s first round of match play.
Senior Cody Robinson and incoming freshman Hunter Rappleye each finished tied for 21st with a 4-over par 148.
Senior Nick Sako finished just one stroke off qualifying with a 6-over par 150 to tie for 38th, while coach Scott Hardy tied for 60th place overall.
Watching today’s first round will be a easy for Gael fans attending the event with three-straight groups featuring Saint Mary’s golfers.
Geyer and Bungert go off at 7:20 a.m., followed by Rappleye against Cody Blick at 7:30 and Cody Robinson versus Austin Weathermont at 7:40. De Los Reyes is matched-up against Evan McLeod beginning at 8:20 a.m.
