Less than a week into his new job as head coach of the Saint Mary’s baseball team, Eric Valenzuela is already gaining momentum and attention as he looks to lead the Gaels’ turnaround on the diamond.
Valenzuela is featured in a piece by Contra Costa Times writer Stephanie Hammon this week, with the story hitting the web today and the print edition on Friday. In the article, the Gaels’ new head coach talks about his focus when it comes to winning games.
“We’re not going to talk about winning and championships, we’re going to talk about developing our players and the process,” Valenzuela said. “We’re going to talk about being goal oriented and process oriented rather than results oriented.”
Next up for Valenzuela and the Gaels is the start of fall classes on Sept. 3. Baseball action returns to Louis Guisto Field in the spring with Valenzuela’s inaugural season as SMC’s skipper.
