Aussies take fourth at U19 World Championships

Saint Mary’s signee Dane Pineau scored 20 points and grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds (3rd-highest single game total in the tournament), but it wasn’t enough as Australia dropped a hard-fought 106-100 decision to highly-regarded Lithuania in the bronze medal game at the FIBA U19 World Championships in Prague, Czech Republic.

Pineau also had three assists and three blocks and shot 9-of-17 from the field.  For the tournament, the Melbourne native averaged a team-high 9.0 rebounds per game and was second on the team in scoring with an 11.8 per game average.

In other international hoops news, former Saint Mary’s players Clint Steindl and Mitchell Young combined for 27 points in Australia’s 85-57 win over the Czech Republic in the opening game of the World University Games in Kazan, Russia.
