Men’s soccer team to run for a good cause

Coaches and athletes from the Saint Mary’s men’s soccer team is inviting Gael fans to join them in a 5k Race For Families on Saturday morning that will benefit the Pleasant Hill-based Center for Human Development.  The event is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning (May 4) at Heather Farm Park in Walnut Creek.

To register for the event, please click here and include “SMC-Highlands” on the school affiliation.  The Gaels will helping represent Highland Elementary School in Concord, Calif.

The Center for Human Development is an organization that offers a spectrum of services for at-risk youth, individuals, families, and communities in the Bay Area. Since 1972 they have provided wellness programs and support aimed at empowering people and promoting positive growth.

“We are fortunate to be part of such a great institution as Saint Mary’s College, but not everyone has the same opportunities,” said SMC men’s soccer coach Adam Cooper.  “I believe it is part of our responsibility as a Division I coaches and student-athletes to give back to our community and help others.  The Center for Human Development does great work and we are really happy to be able to help.”

In addition to participating in the 5k, members of the team will be involved with various aspects of the event as well as showing off some of their soccer skills.
