Today’s television coverage – SMC vs Pepperdine

Today’s 3 p.m. Saint Mary’s men’s basketball game against Pepperdine at McKeon Pavilion is scheduled to be televised live in Northern California by Comcast SportsNet Bay Area and in Southern California by Time Warner Cable SportsNet.  Glen Kuiper and Dan Belluomini will provide the call of the game.

According to West Coast Conference officials (the WCC controls all aspects of televised games during the conference season), there have been a couple of hiccups with regard to the last two regional games involving the Gaels and their coverage on DirecTV outside of Northern California.  However, they have informed us these issues have been corrected and the games should be distributed appropriately.

Please note: If you live in Southern California and have DirecTV or Dish, you will find the game on TWC SportsNet and NOT Comcast SportsNet.  Just the opposite for those fans living in Northern California.

Due to the fact that multiple networks have purchased the rights to distribute the feed, understandably the game is blacked-out by competing networks in the various regions.

Thanks for the update — we are really getting frustrated with DirecTV in Portland. In year’s past, we could find the games on the regional networks. Now, we are getting a black screen during the SMC games only, and I suspect it is the non-contract between DirecTV and the local CSN?

UGH Go Gaels, nonetheless. We would switch back to cable, but then have to give up the NFL Sunday Ticket and watching our 49er games every Sunday (which is way better than only watching the Niners twice a year when they play Seattle 🙂

I have an email out to both Richard L. Leeson Director of Programming Comcast SportsNet California and WCC Commissioner Jamie Zaninovich asking what the problem is. I am a Gael living in Seattle WA and the games have been blacked out for us. I was under the impression at ALL WCC games would be televised this year. What is going on? Thank you.

Does this mean that Wed. game Jan.30 will be shown on TWC SN as the schedule only shows CSN CA which is always blacked. out. in Southern CA Thanks Deborah for letting Comcast know about this as Direct TV said it was their decision. I hope they get this problem resolved before the end of the season.

    • Games that involve a SoCal team will also generally be televised by TWC SportsNet. If not, we would assume they generally are not – unless it is the WCC Game of the Week on Saturdays at 1 p.m. We have been assured by league officials that games televised by Comcast SportsNet will, from this point forward, also be available on DIRECTV within the WCC footprint (Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Nevada, California – Hawai’i & Alaska, too I believe).
