The Saint Mary’s men’s soccer team earned a special recognition tonight from Moraga Mayor Michael Metcalf and the town council with a special proclamation honoring the program’s WCC championship and NCAA Tournament run.
Members of the team and the coaching staff, along with athletic director Mark Orr, attended tonight’s town council meeting and each player received a copy of the proclamation. Graduating senior goalkeeper Doug Herrick and head coach Adam Cooper spoke on behalf of the team and each council member expressed their admiration for the team’s achievement.
“I certainly want to thank the Town of Moraga for recognizing, honoring and celebrating our achievement,” head coach Adam Cooper told the council. “We are all very proud to represent the Town of Moraga and we appreciate what comes along with representing our town and our school. We will continue to work hard to make you guys proud.”
Herrick also brought to the attention of the council the health situation of teammate Emmanuel “Morro” Sarabia, who was diagnosed during the winter with cancer. The team will be hosting a fundraiser at Mangia Ristorante Pizzeria on Thursday, April 19. A percentage of sales from patrons mentioning Morro will go towards his medical expenses.
Note: The proclamation listed does not include the graduating seniors. The copy of the team roster supplied to the Town did not include those individuals. Those names will be added to the official copy of the proclamation.
