Current Portland Trailblazer Patty Mills will be at McKeon Pavilion for Saturday’s game against Utah State to help raise money in relief efforts for the victims of the devastating floods in Queensland, Australia. Patty will be selling t-shirts at the game that he and a charity t-shirt company have developed specifically for this relief fund. Here is a letter from Patty urging fans to help raise money:
Hey Gael fans! It’s Patty checking back in with you from up here in Portland! You might have heard about the devastating floods that took place in my homeland of Australia just a couple months ago. This was an unprecedented disaster and I want to do all I can to help those affected.
I have decided to launch a new program with my friends at WearsMyShirt (a charity t-shirt company started by former SMC basketball player Josh Unruh) and Undercrwn. Our goal is to raise at least fifty thousand dollars to help in the recovery efforts of the residents of Queensland and we need your help.
We’ve created some awesome t-shirts available now at Saint Mary’s basketball home games and online at wearsmyshirt.com, with all proceeds going to flood relief programs in Queensland.
And our project doesn’t stop there, as each of these limited edition t’s has a special code on it, and by logging on to: wearsmyshirt.com, you can type in your code and start a conversation. You can post pictures and videos, share stories and raise awareness while learning more about what you can do to help relief efforts.
This is a great opportunity for anyone who likes wearing cool t’s to help others in need AND you can win some really cool prizes from yours truly! You can purchase your Assist Australia t-shirt at this Saturday’s men’s basketball game against Utah State. They’ll be for sale in the lobby of McKeon Pavilion and at the pregame social for $20 a piece.
So please join me and pick a shirt, wear a shirt and share a shirt. Thanks and GO GAELS!
(Check out the picture below of me modeling the shirt and the links to some videos we developed to spread the word, including a fun one with my Blazers teammate Rudy Fernandez!)
