Still buzzing about last night’s volleyball win in Los Angeles?
The drama remains fresh in everyone’s minds but now takes a backseat as the team refocuses its efforts on today’s 7 p.m. match against host USC in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Saint Mary’s hit the practice court this morning, and will use the rest of the day to rest and prepare for tonight’s match.
A new day, a new task for the hungry Gaels, who aren’t satisfied with just one win.
Don’t fear, the events of last night won’t be soon forgotten. Down two sets to none, the comeback started with a rally in the third set. Once the Gaels took the lead back at 22-21, they never gave it back, winning the set and extending the match.
Things seemed headed in the wrong direction in the fourth set, when San Diego State pulled ahead 20-17. Agaqin the Gaels rallied though, launching an 8-2 run consisting of a block by Katie Reininger, kill by Gabby Jolly, two Kristina Graven kills, two aces by Jordan Shaw, a block by Jolly and Lauren Corp and a kill by Jolly to win the set.
The same could’ve been said about the fifth set, when the Aztecs rallied from three down at one point to take a 12-11 lead. Again the Gaels had a run in them though, running off four straight to win the match.
What kind of heroics do the Gaels have in store for tonight? Only time will tell.
